Della Coreen Lawlis entered her eternal rest in the Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Kent County Nursing Home in Jayton, Texas. Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm Friday, December 2, 2022 at the Methodist Church of Roby. There will be a visitation prior to the service starting at 12:00 pm at the church. Burial will follow in the Roby Cemetery.
Della was born April 2, 1933. She was the fifth child of six born to Lawrence and Elva Griffin in McCaulley, Texas. She attended McCaulley schools. Upon graduation in 1951, she married the love of her life, John L. Lawlis who proceeded her in death on June 3, 2017. She and John made their home in Roby, Texas. They had two children. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Roby for many years. She taught Sunday School and was involved in Kairos Prison Ministry and Walk to Emmaus. She was employed by Walls Industry in Sweetwater for approximately twenty years. Later in her life she took up line dancing and danced with a group of ladies that called themselves The Dancing Queens. They were very popular and danced in area nursing homes and other various social venues. One of Della’s greatest joys was spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved them all dearly and unconditionally. Della loved being a homemaker, baking cakes, and was an excellent seamstress.
Della was preceded in death by, husband, John; son, Craig; her parents; two sisters, Dot Brown and Maxine Kluting; two brothers, Alfred Griffin and Buford Griffin.
She is survived by Linda of Roby; two grandchildren, Mitchell of Roby, Melissa and husband Kurtis of Buffalo Gap; three great grandchildren, Damien, Jack, and Khloe; sister Pat Pyron of Hamlin; numerous nieces, nephews; and close lasting friends that she had many great times with.
