Dorthy May Martin passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family on March 30, 2025, in Arlington, Texas. Services will be held on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Crossroads Baptist Church at 1:00 PM. Burial will be at Sardis Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be Wednesday evening, April 2, 2025, at Weathersbee/Ray Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 7:30 PM.
Born September 11, 1928, in Sweetwater, Texas, and was the daughter of the late Joseph Pike and Ruby Baugh. She graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1947. Shortly, thereafter, she met the love of her life, Anson Martin. After only three months of courtship, they were married on September 27, 1947. They had a loving marriage of 76 years and 11 months.
Other than a few years on the Plains of Texas and Fort Worth, they lived in Fisher County. They build a home in Camp Springs, Texas, in 1960 and resided there for 63 years.
Dorthy spent many years helping her husband in his farming business. She spent her summers canning vegetables from their garden. Her hobbies included quilting, fishing and stamp collecting. She was home room parent to all five of her children’s school classes and was a sponsor on four of the five senior trips her children took after graduating high school. Dorthy loved traveling and two of her favorite trips were to Canada and Hawaii. After retiring, Dorthy and Anson were members of the Fisher County RV Club. They traveled all over Texas, New Mexico and Colorado with the group.
She is preceded in death by her husband Anson B. Martin, her parents, Joseph Pike and Ruby Baugh, her daughter Linda Loyce Martin, her son Carl Anson Martin, her sister Lola McDonald, her brother TJ Pike, her in-laws Stella & Carl Martin and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Survivors include her daughter Karin Martinez, son Richard Martin & wife Karen Lee, son Michael Martin & wife Sandi, all of Arlington, Texas; eight grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren; sister-in-law Anna Beth Martin of Rotan, Texas, and brother-in-law Kenneth Martin & his wife Barbara of Roby, Texas.
