Roby Dr. Wayne Holcomb, 80 passed away Saturday July 6, 2013 at his residence in Midland, Tx. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday July 10, 2013, at WeathersbeeRay Chapel in Rotan with burial in Roby Cemetery under the ion of WeathersbeeRay Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made to the Roby Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 304 Roby, TX 79543. Online condolences may be made at weathersbeerayfh.com.
Wayne was born December 19, 1932, in Ackerly, Texas, to Selman and Bessie Ratliff Holcomb. He was raised in Roby and California. Wayne was fifteen years old when he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in the Korean War. He married Janel Little on August 27, 1954 in Clovis, New Mexico. On May 30, 1960, Wayne received his Bachelor of Business Administration at Hardin Simmons University in Abilene. He received his Masters of Education, August 23, 1969, from Southwest State University in San Marcos, Texas and completed his Doctor of Education, August 11, 1978, from East Texas State University, in Commerce, Texas. Wayne lived various places and moved to Midland in 1972 and was Dean of Occupational Technical Studies at Midland College until retirement. He was an avid outdoorsman, he loved hiking in the Big Bend Area and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Wayne was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers Woody Holcomb, Doris Allen Holcomb, Floyd Truman Holcomb and Sammy Holcomb, and one sister Wanda Mae Kiker.
He is survived by his wife, Janel Holcomb of Midland son and daughterinlaw, Steven and Judy Holcomb of Midland daughter and soninlaw, Julia and Mark Hursh of Alpine, Texas brother and sisterinlaw, Gene and Joyce Holcomb of Rotan sister and brotherinlaw, Wilma June and J.D. Miles of Folsom, California sisterinlaw, Joy Holcomb of Big Spring five grandchildren, Neil Holcomb and wife Amanda, Lance Holcomb and wife Cara, Ryan Dettman and wife Carina, Abby Shea Hursh and Clay Hursh one greatgrandchild, Corbin Holcomb and numerous nieces and nephews.
