McCAULLEY DYCIE EDITH WARD KEMP, 98, passed away, Friday April 19, 2013 at Kent County Nursing Home. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday April 23, 2013 at WeathersbeeRay Chapel with burial to follow at McCaulley Cemetery under the ion of WeathersbeeRay Funeral Home. Dycie was born June 2, 1914 at Paris, Texas to Lon and Maggie Brumley Ward. She had polio when she was a child and spent many years at Scottish Rite Hospital to overcome her complications. Dycie not only overcame the difficulties that came with polio, she excelled in life and lived it to the fullest. She graduated from Roscoe High School and then received a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from Texas Tech University in 1935. Dycie moved to Washington, D.C. and worked for the war department at the Pentagon during the time Japan bombed Pearl Harbor. She then worked at Avenger Field in Sweetwater with the WASP Squadron. Dycie married Fred Kemp at Abilene on October 11, 1946 and they lived in McCaulley. Because Dycie also received her teaching certificate while at Texas Tech University she was able to teach at McCaulley High School, which she did for twentythree years and considered this the love of her life. Dycie was always active in the community where she was a member of the First Baptist Church, election chairperson and recipient of the Distinguished Adult Leader Award of 4H. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, son Freddie Max Kemp, three brothers Lennis Ward, William Berry Ward and Hollis Ward, and infant brother Louis Franklin Ward, and a sister Cleola Beth Myers.
Dycie is survived by her daughter and soninlaw, Ann and Mike Harrell of Roby granddaughter, Jennifer Kincaid of Addison,TX brother and sisterinlaw, Jimmy J.K. and Ola Mae Ward of Snyder and sisterinlaw, Mary Ward of Snyder.
Dycies family would like to offer a special thank you for the angels at Kent County Nursing Center and Joy Kidd, whom Dycie considered to be her personal guardian angel.
