Mrs. Crawford was born March 18, 1923 in Rotan, Texas, to Essie Loper Kersh and Joseph I. Kersh. She was reared in Rotan and graduated from Rotan High School where she enjoyed being a member of the pep squad. During World War II Mrs. Crawford worked as a riveter at Consolidated Vultee Aircraft in Fort Worth, Texas, building B24 Liberator bombers, and occasionally working on the flight line repairing P51 fighter planes. After the war she returned to Rotan where she worked for National Gypsum for a time. In 1946 she married Gordon Willibe Shorty Crawford and settled down in Rotan. Mrs. Crawford was a member of First United Methodist Church since the age of eight. She served as church historian for a time gathering information and pictures of pastors to aid in a chronology of the church in Rotan. She loved collecting antique furniture, antique bottles, and buttons. Later in life Mrs. Crawford took college classes, including art instruction, and painted in oils and acrylics. Her parents and one sister, Oberia Crawford, preceded her in death.
Evelyn Crawford was survived by her husband of 67 years, G. W. Crawford of Rotan daughter and soninlaw Rebekah and Mike Thornton of Center Point, Texas daughter and soninlaw Cheribeth and Eddie Stewart of Harper, Texas daughter and soninlaw Mary Lynn and Paul Hokett of Lubbock, Texas six grandchildren, David Stewart and wife Tracy, Josh Stewart and wife Amanda, Adam Thornton and wife Melanie, Katie Spence and husband Brian, Hilary Compton and husband Taylor, and Ginger Hokett. Eleven greatgrandchildren, two sistersinlaws, and numerous nieces and nephews also survive Mrs. Crawford.
In lieu of flowers, Evelyns family has requested memorials to be made to American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association or The First United Methodist Church. .
