ROTAN EVELYN RUTLEDGE POLK, 95, died Thursday April 5, 2012 at the Fisher County Hospital Assisted Living Facility. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday April 9, 2012 at WeathersbeeRay Funeral Home Chapel with visitation from 9:3010:30 a.m. before the service. Burial will follow at Belvieu Cemetery under the ion of WeathersbeeRay Funeral Home.
Born February 18, 1917 in Fisher County, Evelyn was a daughter of the late Clarence Edgar and Matilda Aurora Gray Rutledge. Evelyn was a lifelong resident of Rotan and a 1935 graduate of Rotan High School. She was the last surviving member of her graduating class.
Evelyn married Alfred Allen quotAlquot Polk on June 17, 1950 in Clairemont, Texas. Evelyn often said he was quothandpickedquot by God for her and her two children. She worked several years at Callan Hospital. Evelyn was a hard worker and loved collecting and refinishing antiques. She also enjoyed working with her hands crocheting, doing crafts and tending her flowers. Evelyn was known for her fantastic red beans and fried potatoes
She was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church and was blessed by being able to live alone until the last seven months.
After fortyeight wonderful years together, Al died on December 5, 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her son Ronald Appling in 2007, four brothers: Ed Rutledge, J.A. Rutledge Lowell Dick Rutledge and C.E. June Rutledge and three sisters: Mary Anna Rutledge, Marie Ash and Esty Appling.
Evelyn is survived by her daughterinlaw, Charline Appling of Plainview her daughter and soninlaw, Peggy and Jimmy Driver of Sweetwater three grandchildren, Craig Driver of San Angelo, Melene Venable of Missouri and Ron Appling of Plainview. She is also survived by five greatgrandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
