Evert “Lee” Emery, 88, passed away Friday, June 5, 2020 at his home. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2020, in Roby Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2020.
Born February 12, 1932, in Tahoka, Texas, Lee was the son of the late William Lee and Addie Lee Emery. Lee was raised in Sweetwater. He joined the Army and served one term during the Korean War. During his service, Lee received a silver star, a bronze star and purple hearts. Over the years Lee had numerous jobs. He was a fireman for the Amarillo Fire Department, a truck driver, oilfield worker, and a car salesman.
He spent thirty-five years with Flora McCombs until her death on July 20, 2019. He loved to be outside doing yard work. Lee never meet a stranger and know for being a very giving man. He enjoyed helping others. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist church and a member of the VFW.
Lee was preceded in death Flora McCombs, one son, Berry Lee Emery; two brothers, W.C. and Leslie Emery; and one sister, Lorretta Lane.
Survivors include four daughters; Theresa Dorris, Kathy Brown of Eula, Rayenona Davis of Rotan, and Clara Speed of Sweetwater; one sister. Gracie Pickett of Boise, Idaho; sixteen grandchildren, Billie Brown, Tracy Evans, Carla Whittington, Kristina Smith, Sherry Smith, Naomi Smith, Berry Lee Smith Jr., Karley Waddington, Richard Wheeler Jr., Robert Wheeler, Sharla Speed, James Speed, William Howard, Kathrina Tovar, Burbe May, and Zanetta May; nephew, David Emery; thirty great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
