Felipe N. Vina, Jr. passed peacefully at home on Saturday, June 9, 2018; at the age of 92. Funeral services are set for 10:00 am, Thursday, June 14, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rotan. Burial will follow in Belvieu Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, June 13, 2018, from 6pm until 8pm at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home; with a rosary service beginning at 7pm.
Felipe was born on May 18, 1926 in Elmendorf, TX, to Felipe and Eufemia Vina, where he lived until he was 18. In 1944 he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he remained in service until 1945; when he was wounded and honorably discharged. After he returned home, he moved to Trent, TX, and farmed for Spud McCloud for many years. Felipe then met Maria De La Luz Romero and married her on May 9, 1957, and they moved to Rotan. Felipe began working for Brazos as a diesel mechanic and retired after 25 years of service.
Felipe was preceded in death by his wife, Maria De La Luz Vina; two sons, Johnny Vina and Joe Manuel Vina; one sister, Juanita Vina; and three brothers, Pablo Vina, Ramon Vina, and Jose Vina.
Felipe is survived by two sons, Juan Martin Vina Sr. and wife, Dolores Almanza Vina, and Jessie Vina; five sisters, Faustina Vina Aguilar, Frances Liedecke, Margarita Anthony, Juanita Vina Romero and Helen Chapa and husband, Isaac Chapa; two grandchildren, Juan Martin Vina Jr. and wife ,Leigha, and Marcella Vina and Lupe Alvarado Jr.; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
