Rotan- Garvis N. Hinson, 87, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2020. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2020, at Rotan First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Belvieu Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. Visitation will be at the Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2020.
Born October 25, 1932, in Gibson County, Tennessee, Garvis was the son of the late Cecil Lee and Vina Ida (Smith)Hinson. Garvis was a veteran of the United States Marines. He married the love of his life, Alta B. Parker on June 9, 1956. He worked for WTU as a lineman and then local manager until his retirement. Garvis was a volunteer fireman for the Rotan Fire Department for thirty-five years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and served as a trustee. Garvis enjoyed fishing, playing golf and working in his yard. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Garvis was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Roy and Jerry.
Survivors include his wife, Alta Hinson; one son, Paul and wife DeLanna Hinson; two daughters; Brenda McCall and Linda Brown, and husband Dean; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one on the way; numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
