Gene Holcomb

ROTAN- GENE SELMAN HOLCOMB, 85, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2015, at his home in Rotan. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 17, 2015, at the Roby Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.
Born May 21, 1930, in Ackerly, Texas, Gene was the son of Selman and Bessie Thelma (Ratliff) Holcomb. After serving in the United States Navy, including a stint aboard the USS Zellars, he married the love of his life, Joyce Mae Barnett, on November 17, 1956, in Sylvester. The couple moved to California in 1963, to Midland in 1972, and back to Roby in 1990. Gene worked in many jobs throughout his career to provide for his family, retiring as an oilfield foreman. He was a member of the American Legion. In his spare time, Gene enjoyed acquiring, trading, and working with livestock, and acquiring and trading cars.
Gene was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-eight years, Joyce Holcomb; his parents, Selman and Bessie Holcomb; his brothers, Woody Holcomb, Truman Holcomb, Wayne Holcomb, Doris Holcomb, and Sammy Holcomb; his sister, Wanda Kiker; and his son-in-law, David Goodrum.
He is survived by two children, Gene Perry Edwards and his wife, Judy, of San Angelo, and Sharon Till and her husband, Butch, of Midland; three step-children, Frederick Carl Ford of Rotan, Freida Goodrum of Granbury, and Martha Starek and husband, Gary, of Buda; one sister, Wilma June Miles and husband, Jack, of California; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
