George Dee Bridges finally lost his long fight with COPD/Emphysema. He died peacefully on March 24, 2018 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater, TX. He will be cremated at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home with a celebration of life to follow at a later date.
Dee was born in Rotan, TX on February 10, 1939 to Angie and Louie D Bridges where he grew up participating in sporting and outdoor activities. He was a prep football standout for Rotan, ultimately earning a football scholarship to play for the McMurray Indians. Upon graduation, he played professionally for a year with the San Francisco 49er's.
Soon after, he taught and coached in Abilene, Lampasas, Electra, finally ending up in Sweetwater, Texas. He taught and coached football at Sweetwater High, became the assistant principal, then later the principal at Sweetwater Middle School. Dee finished his teaching career at the Price Daniel Unit Prison in Snyder, Texas.
Dee is preceded in death by his parents as well as his sister Shirley Bridges Montgomery. He is survived by his son Louie Don Bridges of San Antonio; his daughter Kami Dee Lusson and husband Brian of Austin, TX; His grandchildren, Kyle Lusson, Kevin Lusson, Colton Lusson, Tommy Bridges and Austin Bridges; and his nephews Dr. Richard Montgomery, William Montgomery and niece Dr. Pam Fittz.
The family would like to thank Stuart Carey, Debbie Arnold, David Jones, Larry Meeks, Lisa Bohol, Frank Miranda, Dana Hartman and Jane Ramey for many years of love and friendship and for helping to take care of Dee these last few years. Also, thanks to Dr. Liedtke and the staff at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital, the staff at Nolan Nursing and Rehab, and the nurses & therapists at Rolling Plains Home Healthcare.
