Georgie Upshaw

Georgie Louise (Gruben) Upshaw, 94, of Rotan, Texas passed away February 16, 2017. Her family rejoices because she is free from pain and joyfully in the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and once again reunited with her beloved Therman.
Georgie was born on February 4, 1923, the daughter of Alvin and Vera (Ogden) Gruben of Rotan. As the daughter of a farmer and the eldest of eight children Georgie grew up fast, even driving a team of mules, the famous Bird and Sport, from an early age. Georgie graduated from Rotan High School in 1940.
On October 18,1941 Georgie married the love of her life, Rev. T.O. Upshaw at Cross Roads Baptist Church. She faithfully served the Lord as the wife of a pastor and together with T.O. she helped to build over 60 churches across North America. Her children were the light of her life and she raised each one to put faith and family first in their lives. Unfortunately none of them will ever be able to make Thanksgiving Dressing quite like her.
Georgie enjoyed life and its many pleasures including but not limited to the Dallas Cowboys, quilting, cooking, vegetable gardening, being a Grandma/Mema/Meme to her seven grandchildren, the Dallas Cowboys, sewing, giving orders, driving by the farm, singing hymns and the Dallas Cowboys.
Georgie is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one infant daughter, Shirley Jo Upshaw; two brothers, Glen Gruben and Charles Wayne Gruben; and one sister Melva Jones.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Freddy and Cheryl Upshaw; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kay and Terry Pittman and Karen and Russell Johnson; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Ellen Gruben and Wilber and Mary Gruben; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Laverne and Preston Upshaw and Vera Ellen and Billie Joe McCombs; seven grandchildren, Dusty, Cody, Amy, Scott, Taylor, Travis and Trevor; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers and staff at The Heritage House in Rotan as well as all the sitters for their generous love and care. The family also welcomes those who would like to attend a Memorial Service celebrating a long life well-lived for Christ at Cross Roads Baptist Church on Sunday, February 19, 2017 at 2:00 pm. Burial will immediately follow at Belvieu Cemetery, funeral services will be directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations can be made to Cross Roads Baptist Church located on 602 FM 1657, Rotan, TX 79546.
