Born December 20, 1952, in Sweetwater, Texas, Barron was the son of Parker Barron and Billie Lois Haggard Wetsel. He graduated from Roby High School, where he played basketball, ran track, and was a captain of the football team. Barron also participated in the Boy Scouts, Ag Program, and the FFA. After attending Ranger Junior College on a football scholarship, Barron graduated from Tarleton State University in 1975, with a Bachelors degree in Agriculture Education. He taught Ag in the Lubbock, Floydada, Howe, and Plainview Independent School Districts, retiring after 33 years. In 1997, he earned his Masters Degree in Agriculture Education from Texas Tech University. He also rode in several rodeos, competing as a team roper and a bulldogger. Barron moved back to Roby to care for his parents. In Roby, he worked for Fisher County, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Roby, where he taught the childrens Sunday School class. Barron maintained his membership in the Vocational Ag Teachers Association after his retirement, keeping in touch with many friends across the state. In his spare time, Barron enjoyed welding, fishing, stock showing, and camping. He had a passion for cooking, and was famous for his BarBQue and Ribs. Above all, Barron loved helping others, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Barron is survived by his parents, Parker and Billie Wetsel of Roby three children, Casey Wetsel and wife, Shandra, of Sweetwater, Sammi Nelson and husband, Neal, of Colorado City, and Bailey Wetsel of Lubbock sister Becky McReynolds and husband, Robert, of Sweetwater five grandchildren, Kayden, Jaycee, Riley, Ellie, and Kelby and numerous nieces, nephews, beloved friends, and former students.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church of Roby, 305 W. North 2nd St. Roby, TX 79543.
