Jean was born October 14, 1927 in Sulpher Bluff, Texas to Walter and Emma Dolly Pennington Taylor. She married Waldo Grannison Gatewood on December 8, 1946. They lived in Sylvester for sixtyone years and were never apart aside from hospital stays. She was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband on the farm. Jean was also a wonderful seamstress and cook and was well known for her homemade pies. Above all, she was a great Christian woman who was devoted to her husband and loved her family, especially those who called her quotMammawquot. She was a member of the Roby Church of Christ. Jean is preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Jo Ann Terry, two brothers and four sisters.
Jean is survived by her husband, Waldo Gatewood of Sylvester two daughters and sonsinlaw, Linda and Jerry Etheredge of Snyder and Bobbie and Rex Beauchamp of Roby one soninlaw, Mike Terry of Roby eight grandchildren and their spouses, Chad and Paige Terry, Jason Terry, Teresa and Darry Thomson, Tina and Chad Bagley, Jeremy and Shannon Terry, Michelle and Kurt McMillan, Tanya and Mickey Kelly, and Amy and Toby Young twentyfive greatgrandchildren one greatgreatgrandchild quoton the wayquot one brother and sisterinlaw, Odell and Milda Taylor and three sistersinlaw, Ann Noseff, Jo Dean and Deano Farris, and Gracie Tharp. .
