Erwin Jack Cadenhead, 78, of Rotan, passed away June 24, 2014, after bravely battling a lengthy illness. ation will be Sunday, July 27, from 3:004:00 p.m. at WeathersbeeRay Funeral Home in Rotan. A memorial service will be Saturday, August 2, at 11:00 a.m. at Greenleaf Cemetery in Brownwood, Texas.
Jack was born to Truett and Gussie Cadenhead on January 7, 1936, in Brownwood. While attending church one Sunday in 1954, he met the love of his life, Pat Penn, and they were soon married. Jack and Pats first son, Jack Jr., was born in 1957 and their second son, Michael, was born in 1962.
Jacks early career included a year at Howard Payne University and Convair Manufacturing in Ft. Worth. He went to work for the USDASoil Conservation Services in the early 1960s and it is said that Jacks love for the land in and around Rotan can be seen in over a million miles of terraced farm land. Jack and his young family moved to Rotan in 1964 and Rotan has remained their home for the last 50 years. Jack loved the Rotan Cotton Gin and would work at the cotton gin in addition to his fulltime job with the USDA. He continued to work at the cotton gin until his health would no longer allow him to do so.
Jack was a wellrespected leader in the community and his patience and leadership are fondly remembered. He was a city councilman, as well as a Little League coach and Scout Master for Troop 133. He received the Silver Beaver Award from the Chisholm Trail Council and attended four national Jamborees. Troop 133 included numerous Eagle Scouts and several young
