Jerry Upshaw

JERRY WAYNE UPSHAW, 74, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2015, in Sweetwater, Texas. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2015, at the First Baptist Church of Roby, with burial following at Roby Cemetery, directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.
Born March 24, 1941, in Roby, Texas, Jerry was the son of the late James Truman and Mary Margie (Sharp) Upshaw. He graduated from Roby High School in the class of 1959, and married Sano Moore on June 30, 1962, in Roby. The couple lived in Sweetwater and Abilene before moving back to Roby in 1976. Jerry was a farmer and rancher, who enjoyed taking care of his farm & cattle. He served his community in several ways: as a member of the Board of Directors of the Big Country Electric Cooperative, as a member of the Roby School Board, as President of the Fisher County Fair and Rodeo, as a member of the Sweetwater Jaycees, and as a director of the Rotan Farmers Gin. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf and camping. A family man, Jerry enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren at their athletic events. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Roby.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Truman and Margie Upshaw, and his brother-in-law, Billy Glenn Polk.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Sano Upshaw of Roby; his son, Jeff Upshaw and wife, Tanya, of Roby; his daughter, Kerrie Bratcher and husband, Greg, of San Angelo; two sisters, Wanda Early and husband, Bill, of Snyder, and Jean Ham and husband, Tony, of Sweetwater; five grandchildren, Tavey Stevenson and husband, Tanner, of Roby, Tadie Upshaw of Roby, Taven Upshaw of Roby, Sloane Bratcher of San Angelo, and Zoe Bratcher of San Angelo; three sister-in-laws, Mickey Murchinson of Thordale, Texas , Hudane Ray and husband, Roland of Roby, Bambi Shipp and husband, Vollie of Fluvanna, and numerous, nieces, nephews and friends.
