Jimmy Melton

Jimmy Neves Melton passed from this world peacefully, Wednesday morning July 10, 2019 after a challenging battle with dementia.

Jim was born October 5th 1933 in Roby, Texas to Arlon Cameron and Virginia Maurine Melton who both preceded him in death.  He is survived by his wife of 65 years Shirley Joan Bickerstaff of Rotan, his baby sister, Ginger Jones and husband Calvin of Sweetwarer, Texas and four children. Shirley Winsier and husband Bobby, James Melton and wife Margaret, Wayne Melton, and Dorsey Sparks and husband Tony.  He was a wonderful Papa to his 8 grandchildren; Sarah Hendricks and husband Nathan, Alex Melton and wife Hedy, Zachary Winsier, Max Melton, Mallory Melton-Watkins and husband Ryan, Chalise Pope and husband Waylon, Lacie Melton, Collin Sparks and Catie Sparks and 9 great grandchildren; Matthew Rosilier, James Hendricks, Jeremiah and Jensen Melton, Cade Winsier, Annalise Guerra, Lucas Guerra, Danny and Natalie Pope.

Jim was a great inquisitor, always searching for knowledge, fresh interests and the latest hobby or trend.  Through all his searching, perhaps the greatest gift he received was the knowledge of pure love these last few years as he battled the dementia with the same intensity that he pursued life.  He will be greatly missed by all those that love him.

Services will be at 10:00 am at the First United Methodist Church in Rotan on Saturday, July 13, 2019. Burial will follow in Belvieu Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 pm on Friday, July 12, 2019 at the Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.
