Mack Powers

November 4, 1960 — November 27, 2021

Rotan

Mack Arthur Powers Jr. was born at Holloman Air Force Base on November 4, 1960 to Mack Arthur Powers, Sr.  and Joan Close Powers. He graduated from Dulles High School in Houston, Texas in 1978. He then went on to continue his education at Lubbock Christian University where he graduated in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. Later, he would obtain a Master of Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.

In the Spring of 1979, Mack antagonized Melinda Williamson until she agreed to a first date and impressively convinced her to go steady thereafter. On December 27, 1980, they were wed at Smithlawn Church of Christ in Lubbock, Texas. A short time thereafter Mack and Melinda began a life of ministry at Watters Road Church of Christ culminating in service to several congregations over the years throughout West Texas and Eastern New Mexico. In 1993, Melinda entered medical school and Mack bravely took over caring for four young children. It was during Melinda’s residency that Mack began teaching science classes at local high schools. It was this dedication to and love of teaching that would be the focus of Mack’s career for the remainder of his life.

Of Mack and Melinda’s marriage four children were born and many others were brought in through marriage, friendship and the open-door policy that was so important in their life. Those children are Stephanie, Adam, Michael, Laura, Mandy, DeeAnne, Amanda, Tylor and many others who came and went over the years. Mack is also survived by his sister Robin and his niece Katie.

Other than Melinda, his children, ministry, and teaching, and maybe above all of those, Mack loved his grandchildren. Callie, Cambria, Declan, Devlin, Gus, and Everett were the joys of Mack’s life.

Mack was the source of wisdom, inspiration, and love for so many people. He will be forever missed by his family, church, and friends.
