Rotan

Maxwell Ray Martin “Bird” passed away October 30, 2020 at his home in Rotan.  A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at the Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. Services will be on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at 10:00 am the First Baptist Church of Rotan. Burial will follow in Belvieu Cemetery.

Born July 6, 1956 in Wichita Falls, Texas, Ray was the son of Max and Betty Martin. He grew up in Abernathy where he was known for basketball skills. In 1988 he moved to Rotan where he met the love of his life, Tina Trejo. In March of 1989 they married and moved to Lubbock where he worked at Rojos. They moved back to Rotan and he worked in the meat department at Thrift way for five years.  In 1994 he became a correctional officer. He worked at the Unit in Lamesa, Lubbock and ended his nineteen-year career in Snyder at the Price Daniel Unit.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, Max and Betty Martin; his mother and father-in-law, Juan and Ofilia Trejo; brother in-laws, Paul Trejo and Larry Blumerstock; sister-in-law, Charolette Martin; and two nephews, Weldon McFatridge and Eric “Bubba” Brookhouser.

Ray is survived by his wife of thirty-one years, Tina (Trejo) Martin of Rotan; daughter, Allyson Martin (Johnny Guitierrez) of Sweetwater; son, Juan Maxwell (J.M.) Martin of Rotan; brother, Gary Martin (fiancé Marylena) of Caldwell; sisters, Judy (Steve) Caldwell of Caldwell, Janis (Randy) Griffith of Victoria, Sherry Holden of Victoria; one brother-in-law, Juan Trejo of Rotan; two sister-in laws, Connie Foust of Sweetwater and Norma Martinez of Rotan; one granddaughter, Amelia “Mia” of Sweetwater; and their fur baby, Jack; numerous nieces and nephews.
