N.G. Underwood

N.G. Underwood, age 85, passed away in his home on Saturday, November 30, 2024. Graveside services will be 11:00 am Wednesday, December 4, 2024 in Cottonwood Flat Cemetery. 

N.G. was the youngest son of Nath Underwood and (Lizzie) Edna Elizabeth Helms Underwood. Raised on the home place at Rough Creek he spent his life farming and ranching. He graduated from Hobbs High School in 1957. In 1959 he found his true love in Shirley Joyce Gregory, and they married seven months later in the Underwood home. They then made their home in Rotan. He worked at National Gypsum but never lost his love of running cattle. He raised his two daughters gathering cattle horseback, hauling hay and pitching cake out of the back of a truck, and on the side, he found time to coach girls’ softball. 

He is preceded in death by both parents and his brothers and sisters. 

N.G. is survived by his wife Shirley, oldest daughter and her husband Renee and Alan Weathersbee and youngest daughter Ronda Robinson. He leaves three grandchildren Dustin and his wife Veronica, Keila Perry, and Brandi and her husband Clint McFatridge. There are also three great grandchildren Christiana Weathersbee, Libbie Perry, and Estrella Weathersbee as well as several nieces and nephews.
