Robert Almanza Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2024, in Rotan, Texas, at the age of 76. Born on November 23, 1948, in Matador, Texas, Robert lived a life that was rich with love and dedication to God, his family, and country.
He served with honor in the United States Army as a Specialist 4 from 1969 to 1971, embodying the values of duty and service that would guide him throughout his life. Robert had a fulfilling career as a worker for TX-Dot, where he dedicated thirty-five years of his life before retiring. His work ethic and commitment to his profession were admired by all who knew him.
Robert's proudest accomplishment was marrying the love of his life, Mary Medrano Almanza, on June 8, 1973, in Odessa, Texas. Together, they built a family that he cherished deeply. He is survived by his devoted wife Mary, their son Robert Almanza Jr., his wife Melissa, and four granddaughters: Gabriella Decker (Ryan), Breanna Ledesma (Chico), Lillyan Almanza, and Isabella Almanza. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Ember and Bellamy Ledesma, bringing joy and delight to his later years.
Robert's personality was warm and inviting. He found happiness in his daily cup of coffee, exploring flea markets, and savoring meals at his favorite restaurants. His granddaughters held a special place in his heart; he adored spending time with them and often shared stories that filled their lives with laughter and love. He also taught them to trust in the Lord and the value of prayer.
He is remembered fondly by his siblings Angie Perez, Gil Almanza Jr., Carolina Ramon, and David Almanza, as well as numerous extended family and friends whose lives he touched.
Preceding him in death were his father Gil Almanza Sr., mother Refugia Lopez Almanza, stepmother Maria Garcia Almanza, and siblings John Almanza, Joe Almanza, Vivian Vega, and Santos Almanza.
Visitation will be held at Weathersbee Ray Funeral Home in Rotan, Texas, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on December 16, 2024. The funeral service will take place the following day, December 17, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the same location.
