Visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 3, 2016, at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.
Born July 5, 1938, in Dowell, Roland was the son of Roland Forrest and Faye (O'Briant) Ray. He attended elementary school in Rotan and graduated from Roby High School, where he was active in sports and other extracurricular activities. He served in the United States Air Force. After his service, he returned to Roby to farm with his Daddy, and worked as a farmer and rancher. His final years of employment, he worked as a High Rider for the prison system in Colorado City. On December 31, 1988, he married the love of his life, HueLane Moore, at Roby. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching western movies, Texas Longhorn football, and NASCAR; spending time with his family; going dancing; and taking care of his horses. Roland was a member of the Methodist Church in Roby, the Fisher County Sheriffs Posse, the VFW, and the American Legion. His character and lifestyle made it clear that he was not only a family man, but a "real cowboy".

Roland is survived by his wife of twenty-seven years, HueLane Ray; four daughters, Danette Price and husband, Junior, of Sweetwater, Melanie Ray and Rick Wilson of Sweetwater, DeLanna Hinson and husband, Paul, of Rotan, and Glenda Strickland and husband, Shannon, of Snyder; one son, Billy Cook and wife, Michelle, of Diana; eleven grandchildren, Greg, Mitch, Meagan, Zach, Cyera, Chance, Morgan, Tamara, Kristan, Briana, and Cheyenne; and nine great-grandchildren, with one on the way.
