Sol Martinez, 84, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2020, in Rotan. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 26, 2020, at the First Baptist Church. Burial will be at Belvieu Cemetery directed by Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. Visitation will be 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, October 25, 2020, at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home Chapel.
Solomon Martinez was born March 8, 1936, in Aspermont. He was the son of the late Victoriano and Epigmenia (Lopez) Martinez. He served in the United States Army before marrying his soulmate, Connie Ramirez, on October 26, 1961, in Rotan. Sol worked as a farmer, at the oil mill, and then worked for the National Gypsum Company for 32 years before he retired. Sol was a Deacon at Calvary Baptist Church for 14 years. He loved his Lord and was a prayer warrior. Sol treasured his family and supported them in all their endeavors. He enjoyed working in his garden and was always willing to lend a helping hand. Sol enjoyed making his rounds, talking to friends and to all the kids in our community who called him Popo. He loved looking to see what trouble he could find.
Sol was preceded in death by this parents Victoriano and Epigmenia Martinez, siblings Abel Martinez, Cecelio Martinez, Margarita Martinez, Elena Gauna, Paula Hernandez, Leonar Martinez, Aurora Jimenez, and Rebecca Martinez.
Sol is survived by his wife Connie Martinez, children Irene and Robert Montez, Carlos and Sharla Martinez, and Debra and Philip Matthies; siblings Carmen Miramontez, Petra Martinez, Eliseo and Audelia Martinez, David and Lupe Martinez, Victor and Peggy Martinez, and Paul Martinez; and multiple grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchild.
