Tyra Joretta Noles Carmichael passed away February 23, 2018 at her residence. Services will be at the Cross Roads Baptist Church in Rotan, Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 1:30 pm. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home in Rotan from 6:00 - 7:30 pm.
Tyra was the beloved baby of Floyd and Alvoy Noles, born August 3, 1938. Daulma Stribling, her only sibling was her big sister and self-proclaimed "boss". Daulma "handpicked" Tyra, choosing from all the babies in the nursery at Hendrick Hospital in Abilene, Texas. They remained close and in turn, Tyra "handpicked" a husband, John Stribling, for Daulma to marry. Tyra graduated from McMurry with a BS in Speech and English and taught school for many years. She then went back to school and received her RN from Mary Meeks School of Nursing and was employed as an ICU Nurse at Hendrick Hospital. She received her Master's in Management and Human Relations from Abilene Christian University and later her Administrator's License from the University of North Carolina. She co-authored an article and study on ‘Nursing Education and the State of Texas' entitled "Collaborative Efforts' Developing Clinical Experiences for Nursing Students in Public Sector Settings." Tyra retired from the State School in 1998 and returned to the Noles family farm in Rotan, Texas to help raise cattle and manage the cotton farming business. As an independent contractor, Tyra continued to work in nursing and preform Nurse Management Consultant work for several years.
Tyra married Frank Carmichael in 1958 and together they had a son, Kowe in 1959. In 2001 they were blessed with a daughter-in-law, Janet.
Tyra is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kowe and Janet Carmichael of Abilene, Texas; their children, Kyle, Jayson, Justin, and Carrie; niece, Marda Stribling of Richmond, Kentucky; nephews, Randy Stribling of Hereford, Texas and Clay Stribling of Amarillo, Texas; her "chosen daughter", Janet Adams of San Antonio, Texas; "Special Nurse", Doris White; and several great nieces and nephews.
Tyra was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Carmichael; sister, Daulma Stribling; brother-in law, John Stribling; and parents Floyd and Alvoy Noles.
