ROTAN – Viola Brazee, 97, passed away Sunday, November 10, 2019 at her home in Hobbs, Texas. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 15, 2019, at Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Hobbs Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday evening form 6:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Born August 25, 1922, in Fisher County, Texas. Viola was the daughter of the late A.D. and Jewel (Chism) Ratliff. She married William Owen Brazee on December 24, 1938, in Roby. They lived on the Sammy Baugh Ranch from 1942-1953, before moving to King County in 1953-1994 where they lived and worked for the Springer Ranch. Viola cooked daily meals for the ranch hands. She enjoyed sewing for the public and making western shirts for her family. Viola was a very gifted painter. She was a member of the Sardis Baptist Church.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Owen Brazee; two sons, Carol Gene Brazee and William D. Brazee; one grandson, William Chip Brazee; and four brothers, Marvin, Max, Bill, and Bob Ratliff.
She is survived by her daughter, Julia Holmes; three sister, Dorothy McCain, Bertha Johnson, and Sue Dublin; one brother, Richard Ratliff; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
